Job Description:

A.    Responsibilities 

The PR and Communications Advisor is responsible for: 

  •   Implementing standards and guidelines for GIZ communication work described in P&R and the principles of GIZ’s corporate communication for PME Pakistan 
  •   Developing and implementing the concept for communicating programme-related information both within and outside of GIZ, systematic planning and management of communication activities 
  •   Performing the communication-related tasks for the programme including liaison and effective coordination with the global PME communication team and other relevant units, GIZ Country Office and the corporate communication department HQ if required 
  •   Advising bilateral projects and partners’ communication experts on their communication work, and managing the exchange of information between the projects and the GIZ office 
  •   Assuring the quality of material from PME, partners and other stakeholders if required (e.g. publications, press conferences, PR material like fact sheets, internet presence like material for Startfinder.de, etc.) 
  •   Preparing press releases and media reports 
  •   Providing assistance in the preparation of event videos and photography  
  •   Coordinating cooperation with external communication service providers (e.g. appraisers, agencies, photographers, trainers, copywriters) 
  •   Creating and assuring the quality of pools of appraisers, service providers (text, printers, graphic designers, copyeditors, etc.) 
  •   Production of PR material according to the requirements 
  •   Liaising with the PME team responsible for Program website and producing content in coordination with the National Coordinator and Project Manager 
  •   Supporting the internal & external delegation visits and provides necessary support to visitors 

The PR and Communications Advisor performs the following tasks: 

B.    Tasks 

1.     Media-related work 

The PR and Communications Advisor:  

  •   Coordinates media activities of the projects 
  •   Monitors customer interactions on social media, initiates conversations and provides appropriate responses where applicable 
  •   Monitors and reports social media analytics on a monthly basis to track efficacy and adjust course where necessary 
  •   Writes and sends out press releases and social media contributions 
  •   Compiles information materials for the media (basic material and for specific occasions) and distributes these systematically in line with the target group’s needs 
  •   Monitors the media (documentation and analysis of media reports on GIZ and PME Pakistan) 
  •   Supports in the development and maintenance of relationships with print, electronic and broadcast media to maximize positive coverage of PME 

2.     PR and communications work  

The PR and Communications Advisor:  

  •   Supports with planning and execution of PR and communications events, providing on-site support as needed 
  •   Develops suitable communication instruments for PR (e.g. brochures, factsheets, advertising material, info graphics, PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, information sheets) 
  •   Supports multiple, simultaneous PR campaigns covering all components of the Programme Migration for Development (PME) 
  •   Develops and executes social media strategies and campaigns for Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms to help increase followers and engagement, to help raise the profile of the PME online 
  •   Helps maintain the PR database and builds targeted distribution lists for dissemination of press releases and other communication initiatives 
  •   Manages the necessary coordination processes and the production of publications and materials in accordance with GIZ standards (corporate design, standards for content) 
  •   Coordinates communication strategies and developed content with other GIZ programmes providing reintegration services 
  •   Translates reports, texts and material if required 

3.      Internal communications in the country  

The PR and Communications Advisor 

  •   Passes on information and supports dialogue between the employees in projects
  •   Develops and supports appropriate communication instruments (e.g. emails, internal newsletters, internal events, website Startfinder, GIZ IDA - Integrated Digital Applications) 
  •   Consults with the Corporate Communications Unit on GIZ News on the intranet, and provides editorial input on practical examples and other texts for GIZ media 
  •   Monitors and proofreads the texts to be published on Startfinder and supports translations into local language wherever needed 
  •   Advises local staff on the regulations and contacts for PR in the interests of a uniform GIZ image 
  •  Produces material for internal publication on GIZ homepage or in the internal magazine upon request 

4.     Cross-cutting Tasks 

The PR and Communications Advisor: 

  •   Updates the relevant folders of the GIZ knowledge to facilitate access to key information for tenders such as project references, performance confirmations from clients etc. 
  •   Supports in designing and creating Logos wherever required 
  •   Follows up on information flows and deadlines, prepares notification letters, archiving, agendas and taking minutes for meetings 
  •   Prepares various written outputs, such as background papers, correspondence with governments, working papers, mission reports, presentations and ad hoc reports and participates in relevant meetings and conferences in the area of migration in the country 
  •   Participates in PME-related training programmes and supports actively the development of the programme and the current topic of migration, specifically return and reintegration in Pakistan  
  •   Takes on additional and ad-hoc tasks related to the profile description assigned by the coordinator of PME in the country and the responsible project manager 
  •   Ensures a good information flow and coordination between all local and international partners 
  •   Cooperates and participates in the PME communication network, e.g. participating in communication workshops and coordination meetings 
  •   Drafts relevant ToRs for consultants and other external service providers 
  •   Is responsible for knowledge management in the GIZ internal Data Management System (DMS) and filing relevant material and documents 
  •   Acts as focal point for the PME team for project website and produces required material 

5.     Other duties/additional tasks 

  •   Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management 

C.    Required qualifications, competences and experience 

Qualifications 

  •   University degree in journalism, media sciences, mass communication or other similar/comparable degree 

Professional experience 

  •   At least 3 years’ professional experience in the field of communication (media and PR work, journalism, internal and corporate communication, report writing and/or lobbying or similar) 

Other knowledge, additional competences 

  •   Excellent communications skills both verbally and in writing in English; polished, target group-oriented style 
  •   Experience with media production 
  •   Experience in the design and implementation of media campaigns 
  •   Knowledge of graphic applications (e.g. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Coral etc.) 
  •   Experience in project management 
  •   Editorial experience, experience in writing articles and press releases (evidenced e.g. by work samples) 
  •   Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, Photoshop. InDesign) 
  •   Very good knowledge of the English and Urdu language, proficiency of German is an asset 
  •   Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management 
  •   Willingness to travel within Pakistan and internationally 
  •   Ability to work in complex-, multi-cultural set-ups
